Toward the foot of this sloping street of well-preserved mill housing are gabled, one-and-one-half-story duplexes with doors at the third points of the elevations, which are doubtless of earlier date than the double row of mansarded duplexes, with doors at either end, farther up the hill. The latter, shown in Henry-Russell Hitchcock's Rhode Island Architecture (1939), were probably built at the time of the mill's 1871 enlargement, and remain perhaps the best-preserved street of mansard housing in the state.
