Atlantic Inn (Norwich House)
These two mansard-roofed hotels capture the image of a summer vacation on Block Island. The Spring House, one of the first hotels on the island, took advantage of both a wide view of the ocean and a mineral spring. It expanded to its present form, with a bell-cast mansard, just as regular ferry service was inaugurated. Adjacent is a fine board-and-batten Carpenter's Gothic summer cottage. Just up the hill is the Norwich House, picturesquely rehabilitated as the Atlantic Inn in the 1980s, the decade that saw Block Island's renaissance as a trendy vacation spot.
