Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino’s modest one-story side-gabled clapboard house, built while he served in the state legislature, belies his importance to the state’s architectural history. As governor (1900–1904), Longino advocated for a new capitol and then chaired the State House Commission during its planning and construction. He supported the establishment of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in 1902 and worked to reform the state penitentiary system. In a 1978 restoration initiated by the Lawrence County Historical Society, Gill used historic photographs to reconstruct the pedimented portico on latticed paired posts.
