The New York City designers of this steel-framed, buff brick International Style building at the front of a 270-acre site declared that it embodied “all the refinements of plant construction and interiors learned during the past four years of war research.” The Phillips company welcomed the ease of transportation from Gulfport’s port to South American markets and the mild climate, which allowed year-round bottling. Built by local contractor George P. Hopkins, the two-story office block, with its flat concrete entrance canopy and ribbons of glass block and louvered vents, adjoins a long one-story production wing with a continuous band of windows. Across the highway at 3701 25th, the one-story, buff brick Coca-Cola building (1963–1964, Milton B. E. Hill) is divided into multiple, smaller volumes accented by green terrazzo wall panels and unified by a long metal canopy.
