Respectfully related are the three-story brick and red sandstone commercial block and its older neighbor, the four-story red brick and sandstone Masonic Building (1884[?], J. B. Sweatt[?]; 1890; 1905–1918) at 617–619 Ludington Street. This is accomplished by the equal width of the buildings, the three-bay division, and the steady rhythm of the square and round-arched windows set in recesses separated by piers with foliated capitals and decorated with stone sills and lintels. It was built for the Rathfon Brothers, merchandisers of men's clothing. Charlton probably was responsible for the top-story addition to the temple and its front-facade remodeling.
