In 1852, Irish immigrant and Main Street dry goods store owner James Andrews purchased an unimproved lot at the corner of Maryland Avenue and King George Street and erected a three-story Greek Revival town house, a relatively unusual stylistic choice in Annapolis. The house has a side passage accessed via granite stairs with wrought-iron railings and flat, stone lintels typical of Greek Revival. The use of all-stretcher pressed brick on the front facade was an early local example of this fashionable trend. A pair of parlors is located in the main block of the house, with kitchen and dining rooms in the rear ell.
