The theme of the one-and-a-half-story Smythe house is that of the English medieval cottage. An oversized wide oriel window looks out from the gable end, and a tall chimney climbs the side of the dwelling. A non-medieval feature of the design is the pair of arched windows on the lower floor of the front gable. It all adds up to an excellent example of the period revival of the 1920s.
