Built originally as a private residence for Dr. William R. Smith, this building was purchased in 1899 by the Sioux City School Board to be used as a school. Additions were made in 1910 and 1914. The image of this pink quartzite building is medieval—not playful medievalism, but the sternly disciplined variety.
