Curtis Cottage (Port Sunshine)

This small Italianate one-and-a-half-story cottage was carved out in finely cut, monumental limestone ashlar block. The scale of the block is what one would expect to encounter in a larger house or in a commercial building. The result of this play of scale between the stone of the wall and the cottage size of the house transforms the dwelling nearly into a dollhouse. The only elaboration on the cottage is the bracketed hood over the entrance and the porch to the side (which has had its wooden pillars replaced). The stone voussoirs over each arched window are highly abstract, the arches kept parallel to the same plane as the surrounding walls.
