Here the Streamline Moderne is being slowly transformed into the more “respectable” Modern style that one associates with the years after 1945. The roof of the marquee curves up from below and is held in place by angled rectangles at each side. Above the marquee is a rhythmic pattern of U-shaped fins containing windows. The letters of the sign are brittle in their angularity, in contrast to the curved sign base upon which they are placed. As one would expect, the whole is brilliantly lighted at night with fluorescent tubes, rows of incandescent lights, and back-lighted panels. The 1951 design was, as in many theaters, a remodeling of an earlier theater, built in 1919.
