Holliwell Covered Bridge

1880, H. P. Jones and G. K. Foster, builders. South from Winterset .3 miles on gravel road that leaves from southeast corner of city, then east and southeast on gravel road to bridge.

This bridge was constructed, without covering, over the Middle River in 1854–1855. In 1880 it was moved to Sulgrove on the North River, and when it was re-erected the roof was added. The Holliwell bridge, with its 110foot single span, is one of Iowa's most picturesque covered bridges. The builders employed the Towne arch and arched queen posts in constructing this flat-roofed bridge.
