The architectural high point in Sigourney is the Woodin house. Even though it is only one-and-a-half stories tall, it presents one of the boldest renditions of the Italianate/French Second Empire design within the state. The projecting brackets surrounding each of the dormer windows convey a crisp angular quality one associates with the designs of the Philadelphia architect Frank Furness. As these brackets proceed through the roof eave they become consoles that support the projecting
