Glendale Abbey is an example of the classical tradition, as one might find in an eighteenth-century English Picturesque garden. A pedimented temple front with exaggeratedly widely spaced columns faces the road and parking area. Behind this rises the rest of the stoneclad building, rather strangely surmounted by a low drum and equally low dome (they almost read as parts of a distant building). Everything about the design is simple and clean, with a decided nod toward the primitive.
