As with several other Prairie-style houses in Des Moines, the Harwood house displays a symmetrical two-story facade with a central entrance. The entrance of this dwelling is recessed within the block of the house; on each side a U-shaped pattern of trelliswork surrounds each of the first-floor windows. There is leaded glass within the casement windows. The shingles of the low hipped roof are doubled at three points to create a banded effect, a technique frequently used by the Chicago architect George W. Maher.
