With its main facade running parallel to Grand Avenue, the Homestead building presents a Beaux-Arts classical design modeled in this case after Greek examples. The entrance is a temple with two Ionic columns in antis pressed closely to the side walls. The remainder of the two-story front has widely spaced fluted Ionic columns between which are repeated Chicago windows. White glazed tile and brick have been employed for all of the exterior surfaces and details. The gleaming white surfaces of the building make it all seem fragile and a bit unreal. The siting of the school within a large area of lawns and parks indicates that it is one of the earlier examples of the suburban park-office complex.
