Successor to Old St. Anne's (LN18), this Gothic Revival church by a Philadelphia firm burned in May 1882, a decade after it opened. The buttressed, green serpentine walls trimmed with red sandstone survived unharmed. The original wooden spire was octagonal with four flanking pinnacles, but as rebuilt it is four-sided, with pinnacles omitted. The slate roof was replaced in 2002. Tiny-windowed and intimate, the attached Barr Chapel uses serpentine, too—a rare twentieth-century example. A pencil rendering of Thompson's interior scheme survives.
