This typical small depot of locally quarried volcanic stone blocks has a modified hipped roof with eaves supported by decorative wooden trusses. Hipped dormers poke out of projecting bays on the east and west sides. Companion buildings once included a bunk-house (c. 1881) of squared logs, a frame section house (1882), and an engine house. Antonito was a busy rail center where the D&RG's “Chili Line,” bound for Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Durango-bound San Juan Extension divided. Besides the depot and much intact track, the only other remnant is the freight house, which has been converted to a private residence.
