Overlooking a cannery on the flats below, Saint Nicholas Church was constructed about 1912. One of several very simple Russian Orthodox churches in Alaska, the wood-framed building is covered with clapboard siding. The main block of the building, which measures 15 feet by 36 feet, has a gable roof that is hipped over the sanctuary end. The iconostas features pairs of colonnettes marking each bay. The Royal Doors are pierced tin, while the deacons' doors are cotton, stretched on a wooden frame. Other decorative items include a carved wooden lampada, or hanging candle, and two carved candlestands. There is a recess in the ceiling, reminiscent of a dome, which abuts the iconostas.
