An unusual poured concrete structure, the Chisel Building was constructed in 1916 by a merchant, Joseph H. Chisel. Chisel mixed and poured his own concrete, devising a system of temporary ramps. The three-story building is rough finished but ornamented by inset panels above the windows, a belt course between the first and second stories, and concrete dentils at the cornice. The upper stories housed a hotel and the first floor Chisel's store, with a mezzanine level. An idiosyncratic venture, the building is still a landmark in town.
